In 2018 two Stage 3 teachers and the Principal embarked on a Journey to incorporate Inquiry Based learning into their teaching programs. This decision was made after seeing fabulous teaching and learning happening across NSW and SA through our connection with SVA.
So... Our 'Grapple Based' learning program was born. The thinking behind this was to build on what our fantastic K-2 team were already doing in play based learning and inquiry. We wanted to foster students who are self regulated in their learning as well well as their behavior, build a culture of questioning, curiosity, creativity and confidence within our students. We started big... maybe too big!! We looked at the new Geography Syllabus and wondered how we could incorporate other KLA's within our literacy/ Inquiry Program. The question that we developed was : Australia Joined ASEAN in 1949. Why should we belong? During our literacy blocks we supported student to build their field of knowledge in :
The project was difficult at times and we had to meet frequently as a team to reflect on how the students were going and where to next.
