Writing moderation at GEPS...a deep and rigorous learning process!
Our writing moderation tool has developed over several years. Staff first collaborated in stage and cross-stage teams to create the 'What's Expected' document for each grade, incorporating key information from the syllabus and progressions.
A K-6 team then met twice each term in order to select samples that contained evidence of writing that was 'on track' for meeting end of year expectations. As a working document, writing samples which form part of the continuum are constantly revised and added to. At times we replace some as we deepen our understanding, and potentially find examples that better illustrate what's expected at different points of the year.
