South Australia VisitAfter running our pilot 'Grapple' program in 2018, our Stage 3 team decided the benefits to student self regulation and agency were too great to miss out on.
We embarked on some in house learning during term 1 and 2 but needed some extra support. So off we went interstate to learn from those who have waded through the good, bad and the ugly of Inquiry based learning and come out on top, our Pals in SA! We took on huge amounts of new learning, taking tips, tricks and ideas from other schools. We then really tried to get to the bottom of what would work for our kids and our context as well as really trying to define why we wanted inquiry learning to become part of our teaching and learning programs in 2020. In our Stage 2 JELO we were discussing what essential elements and practises are required for the beginning of term 1 2019. We wanted to foster students who are self regulated in their learning as well well as their behavior, build a culture of questioning, curiosity, creativity and confidence within our students. We started big... maybe too big!! We looked at the new Geography Syllabus and wondered how we could incorporate other KLA's within our literacy/ Inquiry Program. The question that we developed was : Australia Joined ASEAN in 1949. Why should we belong? During our literacy blocks we supported student to build their field of knowledge in :
The project was difficult at times and we had to meet frequently as a team to reflect on how the students were going and where to next. As part of the SVA network, we needed to speak about our project in under a minute. The purpose of this was to explain what we do here at Granville East in the most succinct way possible while still getting across the purpose and importance of the PLF.
